Κύπρος: Η επιστολή του Τούρκου ΥΠΕΞ που ενταφίασε το «Σχέδιο Άτσεσον»

Αίσθηση προκάλεσε η προ διημέρου ανάρτηση άρθρου του καθηγητή Μάριου Ευρυβιάδη, το οποίο είχε γραφτεί προ δωδεκαετίας, για να ανατρέψει τους ισχυρισμούς της… «μοντέρνας ιστοριογραφίας» και πρωταγωνιστών της εποχής, σύμφωνα με την οποία το περίφημο «Σχέδιο Άτσεσον» ήταν ευκαιρία για τον Ελληνισμό, η οποία πήγε χαμένη.

 

  Σε συνέχεια αυτού του θέματος, το «defence-point.gr» εξασφάλισε και παρουσιάζει την επιστολή του Τούρκου υπουργού Εξωτερικών της εποχής, με την οποία απλώς δίνει τέλος στη φιλολογία περί χαμένων ευκαιριών, όπως άλλωστε και πολύ αργότερα το «Σχέδιο Ανάν», με τη διαφορά ότι αυτό δεν ήταν απλώς «ευκαιρία», αλλά «τελευταία ευκαιρία»… ποιος ξέρει, μάλλον πίστευαν ότι θα ακολουθήσει… Αρμαγεδώνας, τον οποίο τελικά δεν είδαμε, με τη θέση της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας να είναι, ελέω υδρογονανθράκων, ασυγκρίτως ισχυρότερη.
Στην επιστολή με ημερομηνία 28 Αυγούστου 1964, το περιεχόμενο της οποίας παρατίθεται στη συνέχεια, ο Φεριντούν Κεμάλ Ερκίν, υπουργός Εξωτερικών της Τουρκίας, αναφέρεται ξεκάθαρα, από την πρώτη κιόλας παράγραφο, ότι «οι τελευταίες σας προτάσεις για λογαριασμό της κυβέρνησης των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών, θεωρήθηκαν ΕΝΤΕΛΩΣ ΑΠΑΡΑΔΕΚΤΕΣ από την τουρκική κυβέρνηση», συμπληρώνοντας λίγο παρακάτω, ότι «η σχετική [απορριπτική] απόφασή μας είναι μη αναστρέψιμη [irreversible]».

Mr. Ambassador,
August 28, 1964
The later proposals that you put forward on behalf of the United States Government for a solution on the Cyprus problem have been found totally unacceptable by the Turkish Government and the reasons for this attitude have been explained to you in detail.
I have stated to you unequivocally our position in our talk yesterday. I would like now to confirm most emphatically that your latest proposals based on the precarious foundation of a lease arrangement are unacceptable to the Turkish Government and that our decision in this respect is irreversible.
Despite the clarity of our position, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, who came to visit me yesterday, reported a conversation between Undersecretary Mr. George Ball and the German Ambassador in Washington in which the Undersecretary told him that Turkey neither accepted nor refused these proposals.
I would be obliged if you would inform your Government of our stand which I felt compelled to reiterate.
I fell also obliged to draw your attention to the fact that murders and barbarous acts take place before the very eyes of the military forces of Greece which in large number have occupied illegally Cyprus and that this situation involves therefore the responsibility of the Greek Government itself.
The information we have received indicated that murderous attacks against the Turkish community are still continuing sporadically and that the claims that the economic blockade had been lifted correspond to the reality only to a very little extend.
Please accept, Mr. Ambassador, the assurances of my highest consideration.
